Décember 9th 2002 - Departure planned January 2003
Sailing from Santa Lucia to Sao Vicente is one of my best sailing recollection. Mr Stephens can be proud of himself !
We weighed anchor on a very windy morning. We were a bit concerned about the wind, knowing that it generally blows harder between the islands than where we were. We had decided along with 'Jazz' and 'Pearl Seeker', an English boat which arrived a few days earlier, that if it got too though past the cape, we'd come back right away. But the wind remained the same and we went on to Mindelo. Askoy was sailing against the wind under jib, leaving the other boats behind. It was wonderful. We could tell she had been built for this. Ludo, soaked by a wave but nevertheless ecstatic, was steering with a big smile on his face. We reached Mindelo after 4 hours of pure enjoyment.
